A traffic stop on Highway 301 near Enfield Thursday evening led to the arrest of a Whitakers man wanted on multiple charges in Wake County.

Corporal J. Morales was conducting traffic enforcement on Highway 301 just north of Enfield shortly before 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20, when he stopped a vehicle for a traffic violation and made contact with the driver.

During the stop, Morales learned the driver, identified as Jose Rivera, 32, of Whitakers, did not have a driver’s license and had outstanding warrants from Wake County.

Rivera was taken into custody and charged in connection with the traffic stop with:

  • Speeding
  • No operator’s license

Rivera was also served with outstanding Wake County warrants charging him with:

  • Assault by pointing a gun
  • Assault by strangulation
  • Assault on a female
  • Misdemeanor crime of domestic violence

The Wake County charges stem from an incident that occurred in Raleigh on Feb. 11, 2024, and was investigated by the Raleigh Police Department.

Rivera was given no bond on the Halifax County charges and a Nov. 23 court date. He was also held without bond on the Wake County charges and given an Aug. 26 court date.
