A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested Tuesday after authorities say a search warrant executed at a local motel resulted in the seizure of crack cocaine and a handgun.
Agents with the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force, assisted by investigators with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, executed the search warrant at approximately 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 8, at a motel on Julian R. Allsbrook Highway within the Roanoke Rapids city limits.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, the search warrant stemmed from community complaints, law enforcement intelligence and an ongoing investigation into the alleged illegal distribution of narcotics in and around the Roanoke Rapids area by 40-year-old Jonathon Pilgrim of Roanoke Rapids.
Authorities said agents located Pilgrim outside the motel room when they arrived and detained him without incident.
During a search of Pilgrim, his property and the motel room, agents reportedly located and seized approximately nine grams of crack cocaine, a digital scale and a Taurus 9mm handgun.

Pilgrim was arrested and charged with possession with intent to manufacture, sell and deliver cocaine; felony possession of cocaine; maintaining a dwelling for the sale of narcotics; possession of a firearm by a convicted felon; and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Pilgrim was held without bond under North Carolina’s Pretrial Integrity Act because authorities said he was already out on bond and awaiting trial on other charges in Halifax County.
He was given a Sept. 23 court date.
The Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force is composed of deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department. The partnership combines personnel and resources to combat drug trafficking and gang activity throughout Halifax County.
