ROANOKE RAPIDS — Roanoke Rapids police have identified an 18-year-old man wanted in connection with a Sept. 6 shooting on Clinton Street that left a 17-year-old wounded.

Roanoke Rapids Police Department officers responded to the 200 block of Clinton Street following a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they learned the victim had already been taken by private vehicle to ECU Health North Hospital.

According to RRPD, the initial investigation determined the 17-year-old was standing in a yard with others when a vehicle stopped nearby and someone began firing toward the group. The teenager was struck in the torso, while multiple rounds also struck an occupied residence.

An investigation by the department’s Criminal Investigations Division identified Tri’Ali Hyman, 18, and a juvenile as suspects in the shooting.

Police allege Hyman and the juvenile drove past the victim’s residence and opened fire while the teenager was standing in the yard. Investigators said two firearms were recovered from the suspects’ vehicle shortly after the shooting.

Hyman is wanted on charges of assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury and discharging a weapon into an occupied dwelling. RRPD said Hyman has been entered into the National Crime Information Center as wanted.

Police are also seeking juvenile petitions charging the juvenile suspect with the same offenses.

Anyone with additional information is asked to contact the RRPD Criminal Investigations Division at 252-533-2810.
