ROANOKE RAPIDS — A Roanoke Rapids man was arrested Thursday on multiple charges stemming from a motorcycle pursuit earlier this month, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.
On Aug. 18 shortly after 10 p.m., Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Community Action Team Sgt. T. Acree observed a motorcycle traveling east on Bolling Road that matched the description of one that had reportedly fled from members of the Community Action Team earlier that day.
Acree attempted a traffic stop near Franklin and West Second streets in Roanoke Rapids after observing what authorities said was a fictitious registration plate.
The motorcycle fled and later crashed at the dead end of Franklin Street, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The driver then fled the scene on foot.
Additional deputies and officers with the Roanoke Rapids Police Department responded to assist.
Following further investigation, Acree obtained warrants for Cody Austin Peterson, 33, of Roanoke Rapids.
Peterson was charged with felony fleeing to elude arrest with a motor vehicle, failure to heed lights and siren, resisting, delaying or obstructing a public officer, no liability insurance, displaying a fictitious registration plate and failure to stop at a stop sign.
Community Action Team Sgts. Acree and D. Harrison arrested Peterson in Roanoke Rapids on Thursday, Aug. 27.
Peterson was held without bond and is scheduled to appear in court Sept. 22.
