The Roanoke Rapids Graded School District Board of Trustees has selected Troy Cribb to fill the vacant seat left by former board chairman Dr. Michael Williams.

Board members made the selection during a work session Tuesday, Sept. 8. Williams announced his resignation from the board in July.

Cribb, a Roanoke Rapids native and graduate of the district, will take the oath of office during the Board of Trustees meeting on Sept. 15. He will serve the remainder of Williams’ term, which expires in 2027.

Three people applied for the vacancy: Cribb, Steven Ellis and Travis Godsey. All three candidates were interviewed by the board Tuesday.

Following interviews, deliberation and discussion, board members voted by written ballot. Cribb received the five votes required for selection, while Ellis received the remaining three votes.

“I am truly honored and humbled to have been selected by the Roanoke Rapids Graded School District Board of Trustees to fill the vacant seat,” Cribb said.

Cribb said his connection to the district extends from his own childhood through the education of his two sons.

“Having attended Roanoke Rapids Graded schools from elementary through high school and later watching both of my sons attend, our schools have always held a special place in my life,” Cribb said. “I am grateful for the Board’s confidence in me and the opportunity to serve, and I look forward to working together to support our students, staff, and families while giving back to the community that has meant so much to me.”

Board Chairman Ed Liverman said Cribb’s leadership and commitment to the community stood out during a selection process that included three strong applicants.

“Troy will be a great addition to our board as he brings a strong ethical foundation and will provide invaluable perspective to the board as we continue to support our students, staff, and schools,” Liverman said.

The RRGSD Board of Trustees will hold its next regularly scheduled meeting Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 6 p.m. in the Board Room at RRGSD Central Services, where Cribb is scheduled to take his oath of office.
