Chief Chris Davis
WELDON — Weldon Police Chief Christopher Davis is retiring after 23 years of service to the town, including the past eight years as chief of police.
Davis announced his retirement in a message Monday, reflecting on his more than two decades with the Weldon Police Department and thanking the residents, town officials and fellow law enforcement officers who have been part of his career.
“I have extremely enjoyed my time here in Weldon and have met many people that I consider as a friend now,” Davis said.
Davis said his years in law enforcement gave him the opportunity to learn from those who served both Weldon and other agencies throughout the Roanoke Valley. He also thanked the town administrators, board members and residents he worked with during his career.
While reflecting on his tenure, Davis acknowledged that not everything went as he would have hoped, specifically mentioning families who are still waiting for answers in unresolved cases.
“I feel in my heart that one day there will be answers to those families that have not gotten the answers they wanted,” Davis said.
He expressed hope that whoever succeeds him as chief will continue pursuing those cases with the same effort his department has put into them and work toward providing answers and peace for the families involved.
Davis also expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve Weldon and said he hopes the town continues to experience progress and prosperity.
“I wish the best for the Town of Weldon and hope there continues to be progress and prosperity to help the Town grow,” Davis said. “It seems to be many good opportunities coming and I hope there are more to come.”
A gathering will be held at Weldon Town Hall on Tuesday, Sept. 1, from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m., where Davis will be available to say goodbye to residents and others who wish to stop by.
Davis also announced that the current Weldon Police Department Facebook page will close at midnight Monday, Aug. 31. He said he does not know when a new department page will be created and encouraged residents to watch for a new page in the future.
