The Halifax Regional Drug & Gang Task Force returned to Melody Lane early Thursday morning, arresting a Roanoke Rapids-area man on drug charges for the second time in less than two weeks and also arresting his neighbor.
During the early morning hours of Oct. 1, the Task Force, Halifax County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division and Roanoke Rapids Police Department Criminal Investigations Division simultaneously executed two narcotics-related search warrants at neighboring homes on Melody Lane, just outside Roanoke Rapids.
The targets of the searches were 49-year-old Tyron Mills and 43-year-old Lucas Hedgepeth.
According to the Task Force, investigators obtained another search warrant for Mills’ residence after learning he was allegedly continuing to sell drugs following a Sept. 18 search of the same home.
During Thursday’s search, investigators said Mills had hidden suspected drugs in several locations around the property. Officers reported finding approximately 450 grams of powder cocaine, 154 grams of crack cocaine and 634 grams of marijuana.
Mills was arrested and charged with two counts of trafficking cocaine, two counts of possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine, two counts of possession of cocaine, possession with intent to sell and deliver marijuana, felony possession of marijuana, felony maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Mills was not given a bond under the Pretrial Integrity Act and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 21.
Investigators also searched Hedgepeth’s neighboring residence, where they reported finding approximately 10 grams of cocaine, 5 grams of crack cocaine and 17 grams of marijuana.
Hedgepeth was arrested and charged with two counts of possession with intent to manufacture, sell or deliver a Schedule II controlled substance, two counts of felony possession of cocaine, possession of up to one-half ounce of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He received a $40,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 20.

In announcing the arrests, the Task Force issued a pointed warning to those who continue alleged drug activity after an arrest.
“Just because we knocked your door down two weeks ago, two days ago or two hours ago doesn’t mean you can get out of jail and go back to doing the same thing,” the Task Force stated.
The Halifax Regional Drug & Gang Task Force is made up of deputies from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and officers from the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.
