Wanted Sex Offender Sought in Halifax County on Failure to Register, Child Sex Charges

Authorities are asking for the public’s help locating a registered sex offender wanted on charges of failing to register and additional child sex offenses.

Ezra Patterson, 38, was released from prison on January 7, 2026, and subsequently failed to register as a sex offender, according to information released by law enforcement.

Authorities said Patterson’s probation officers have had no contact with him since his release.

In March, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office obtained a warrant charging Patterson with failure to register as a sex offender. Patterson was also entered into the National Crime Information Center, or NCIC, as a wanted person.

Additional charges were filed several months later following an investigation by the Roanoke Rapids Police Department.

In June, Roanoke Rapids Police Department investigators obtained warrants charging Patterson with statutory sex offense and indecent liberties with a child.

Patterson is described as approximately 5 feet, 8 inches tall and weighing 238 pounds, with green eyes. Authorities say he is known to frequent the Halifax and Perquimans County areas.

Anyone with information regarding Patterson’s whereabouts is asked to contact Halifax County Crime Stoppers at 252-583-4444.
