Weldon Man Dies Following Early Morning Shooting

A Weldon man has died following a shooting that occurred early Saturday morning, according to the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly after 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, 2026, deputies with the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office and officers with the Weldon Police Department responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Dogwood Park Apartments in Weldon.

While law enforcement officers were en route, Halifax County Emergency Communications received a report that a person had been shot and was lying on the ground.

Upon arrival, deputies located the victim and immediately began rendering aid until emergency medical personnel arrived. The victim was transported to ECU Health North Hospital before being airlifted to ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville due to the severity of his injuries.

Investigators remained at the scene to collect evidence and process the crime scene.

On the evening of Sunday, July 12, investigators were notified that the victim, identified as Moncrinique Clements, 38, of Weldon, had died as a result of his injuries.

The investigation remains ongoing.
